Acid Reflux Symptom-The Digestive
System
The digestive system is always being
used. Although you eat at only certain times that food requires
a lot longer to be broken down and passed through the body.
When food and drinks are taken the digestive process stars in
the mouth when we chew, breaking the food up so that digestion
is easier to accomplish when it reaches the stomach. When food
finally reaches the stomach, acid and pepsin is released to
help aid in the process of digestion. This is where the first
acid reflux symptom
begins.
When we have problems with our
digestion system we usually reach for the home natural remedy
to aid our digestive problems. However the most common acid
reflux symptom we encounter is heartburn. although
a heartburn home remedy may alliviate the pain you
maybe medication is required. Acid reflux occurs when
the stomach acid reenters and irritates the esophagus causing
pain and sometimes ulceration.
Although there are many different
kinds of digestive problem by far the most common is Gastro
esophageal reflux disease, GERD for short. The main symptom of
acid reflux disease is heartburn, but everyone is different and
there are quite a few other symptoms you may have besides
this. Indeed a lot of people get heartburn but do not actually
have acid reflux disease.
Heartburn or Acid Reflux
Disease
Heartburn differentiates from acid
reflux disease in that most people can have heartburn from time
to time, but if you happen to have it say twice a week or
more then you should see your doctor because the heartburn
cause may well be acid reflux disease.
Another common acid reflux symptom to
look out for besides that burning sensation in the lower
esophagus area is hoarseness, the acid can reach into the
throat and create hoarseness and also leave a bitter or sour
taste in the mouth. Another symptom is wheezing also a dry
cough is another symptom of acid
reflux.
Symptoms of Acid Reflux
Other indicators acid reflux
disease may be your problem are when you lie down after a meal,
you may feel the stomach contents reentering the esophagus and
throat. Another acid reflux symptom is after a meal, you try
bending over and feel a pressure pushing the stomach contents
back into the esophagus. This may be caused because the valve
at the bottom of the esophagus called the lower esophagel
sphincter (LES) may be too relaxed allowing the reflux to
occur. Having a relaxed or damaged LES is probably the main
cause of GERD. Exercising will not alleviate the symptoms and
many symptoms are magnified during exercise. Symptoms of acid
reflux are often the same as heart attack symptoms, having that
burning pain in the chest. Taking antacids may help reduce
heartburn pain but if you have acid reflux disease then the
symptoms of heartburn will probably return.
Acid reflux disease can happen to all
ages including infants and young children. Although infants
have a tendency to have acid reflux or heartburn, this
condition usually fades in time but acid reflux disease can
develop weather it be in young children or adults alike. GERD
in adults can be brought on by poor diet, lack of physical
activity, and leading a hectic and stressful
lifestyle.
Other factors that can also cause acid
reflux are pregnancy. Due to hormone changes during pregnancy
the LES can be relaxed causing reflux. Also the pressure on the
stomach by carrying a baby can push stomach contents up and
into the esophagus also causing heartburn. Other factors to
note that can give symptoms of acid reflux are, being
overweight, overeating, certain beverages, especially
containing caffeine can irritate the stomach lining and so
produce more acid. Also some foods and medications can affect
the stomach and cause heartburn.
Lean Your Acid Reflux
Symptoms
Someone who thinks they have acid
reflux disease should learn more about the
symptoms. In this way you can keep a record of what is
setting off your GERD and take preventative measures to limit
the occasions that acid reflux happens. The best way to prevent
having acid reflux is to stop it happening in the first place.
By being aware of what is causing the problem and taking
appropriate lifestyle changes to combat it you can have a much
better standard of life.
A lot of GERD problems happen due to
improper diet and eating habits. By eating smaller meals but
more often and starting an acid reflux diet will help. Acid
reflux diet foods can inhibit the production of stomach acid,
also knowing which foods to avoid with acid reflux can be of
great benefit. By taking a few lifestyle changes and being more
aware of what is causing the problem you may be able to stop
that first acid reflux symptom before
it happens.
